HI THERE!
Dana is an award winning photographer located in Alvord, Iowa. A tiny town in the far northwest corner of the state. While the town may be small, it is just a short drive from Sioux Falls and has many neat areas nearby for portrait sessions included within her studio which is in the front portion of her home that she shares with her husband and two children. She also travels to many places for location sessions!
Dana earned an associate degree in graphic communications in 2003 and then worked as a graphic designer building photo albums, retouching images, designing advertising and other creative work for other studios. She discovered her love of photography during this time and after moving back to her childhood town, opened her studio in 2011.
Dana has received many art and photography awards on the state and national levels including a spot on Team USA in the 2021 World Photographic Cup. Through Professional Photographers of America she has earned the Master Photographer degree in 2021 and Master Artist Degree in 2022. She truly loves being a part of the photographic community.

"Feeling Bookish"
Every year, I like to challenge myself and grow as an artist by trying something new. One of the ways I do that is by entering print competitions. They usually provide me with a lot of great feedback and I always learn something! In February 2025, I headed to Texas for the annual International Print Competition, and I’m excited to say I came home with a Bronze and Platinum medal! The piece "Feeling Bookish," which you can see to the left, came in a very close second in the Children's category!
My Why...
The portrait that never fails to make me smile.
This image is one of my favorites of my children. Both of them, along with a cousin, have June birthdays. My daughter loved June as a child. It meant parties, laughter, and plenty of cake! So, when she found out our dog, Luke, also had a June birthday, she insisted on throwing him a party, thrilled by the idea of yet another excuse for cake.
This art piece shows Luke celebrating his first birthday with the kids. True to his nature, he devoured his cupcake before they even had a chance to take a bite. Meanwhile, our cat—ever the independent spirit—completely ignored her own treat and instead set her sights on my daughter’s cupcake.
Though my kids are much older now, this portrait still hangs in our great room, bringing a smile to my face every time I see it.
